What is Yulefest?
Yulefest was born quite by accident over 30 years ago at Katoomba’s Mountain Heritage Hotel. The establishment’s proprietor, Gary Crockett, was talking with some of his house-guests who hailed from Eire – it was a fairly bitter and cold July day.
On the suggestion of one of his guests, Gary arranged a Christmas themed feast and festivities that night, which was reminiscent of Christmas back home.
The year after, ‘Christmas in July’ became established as a permanent event and the word spread around. By the next season, many Blue Mountains accommodation outlets realised the value of such a themed event for visitors, to the benefit of the region’s economy, and offered Yuletide festivities to their own guests.
It was only a couple of years later that Yulefest had become well established as a winter escape for Blue Mountains visitors in search of something different.
From then, this annual festival has expanded, becoming one of the premier seasonal events for the Blue Mountains region.
Now into it’s fourth decade, Yulefest Blue Mountains is one of the primary destination festivals for both domestic and international visitors. With terrific events on offer, such as our annual Yulefest dinner and show and wonderful accommodation packages to choose from, many people have become Yulefest junkies, returning every year.
